• Did you know anyone can call themselves a “Lactation Consultant” or “Breastfeeding Specialist”?!?!

But only those whom have met strict criteria set by the IBLCE (International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners), passed the international exam and met the ongoing clinical and educational requirements are able to call themselves an IBCLC.

The process to gaining this qualification is rigorous and requires ongoing re-certification every 5 years to ensure your IBCLC is practicing safely, using up to date methodology and treatment protocols.

  • In Australia, an Endorsed Midwife is a highly experienced Registered Midwife who can demonstrate:

5000 hours of clinical practice within 6 years and has successfully completed a NMBA-approved program of study at university leading to endorsement for scheduled medicines.

Endorsement, allows a Registered Midwife to practice privately, prescribe medications and order ultrasounds and investigations.

Endorsed Midwives have Medicare and Prescriber numbers and can offer certain medicare rebates and prescriptions on the PBS.

Endorsed Midwives can refer to Obstetricians and Paediatricians and work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team.

  • Not at all! You are able to self refer - how good is that?

If you have been seeing another health professional for your pregnancy &/or feeding journey thus far, then a referral is more than welcome and often very helpful.

  • LLLT is amazing!

This is a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved treatment and free from side effects.

LLLT emits no heat, therefore there is no destruction of tissue, as occurs with other heat producing forms of surgical laser therapy.

It works by influencing cell metabolism, thereby having the following effects:

    • pain relief

    • acceleration of wound healing

    • reduction in swelling and inflammation

    • promotion of blood circulation

    • reduced risk of infection

Treatment use during the postnatal period includes:

    • sore and cracked nipples

    • milk stasis lumps (blocked ducts) and mastitis

    • episiotomy/perineal or caesarean wound

    • haemorrhoids

    Treatment for baby includes:

    • baby nappy rash

    • poorly healing umbilical cord

The pain usually recedes after the first treatment with LLLT and wound healing starts immediately. The treatment takes just a few minutes and is applied four times at most.

During treatment, you will be asked to wear protective goggles (supplied) and Wendy will also wear these protective goggles.
